How do you get the info or instructions out there

How prominent should instructions or details of what to do be  in an online subject? Alternatively should there be an hierarchy of content links that helps students navigate tothe content they seek. One way of getting around this the wish to have students read what you want them to is to send them emails with the important [...]

The failures of systems and how to design things that do not get in the way

Some recent emails to me about the resetting of passwords on edublogs has got me thinking about  the new online technologies still getting in the way of online learning instead of gradually disappearing as a source of frustration. This idea of  simpler technologies not imposing distracting extra cognitive load on learning - was one of the [...]

Apologies for exclusion of students from Elluminate

I think I can answer a few issues that arose on Wednesday night now I have spent a bit of time yesterday trying to get my head around the issue of the University of Melbourne purchasing just a 10 seat virtual classroom for the Elluminate software environment. About

This is the Online education and Training 2008 external blog at edublogs.

It is associated with the the subject 485601group blog but it is an additional blog that allows for different things to be investigated. The reason we will use it is because it is more like a real blog in that it is public and it is designed at least initially to be controlled by one administrator who can dertermine and  approve what is written in the blog. This is a different set of controls to those that are included than in the Learning Management System group blog for the subject.

It is an area that is designed to help you get an idea of how to use blogs for student learning and teaching. Online ed and train students have been invited to contribute ideas and comments to this blog. The blog will also be used for various online learning experiments that may not be possible in other environments.

There are (or will be) many other blogs associated with the subject including student blogs and the group blog in the learning management system for the subject. The advantage of this blog is that is within the edublogs system which allows for a range of features and additions not possible through the learnin management system blog.

Anyway we have some high hopes and expectations for the uses that this blog will fill so keep reading and keep coming back to see what is available here.
